Two New Buildings: Intake Center and Executive Offices

Spectrum Health Systems engaged RP Masiello to lead the design-build program for two new buildings to be constructed in tandem on its 25-acre campus in Westborough. One was a new intake center and the second the provider’s new administrative headquarters.

The intake center is a steel frame building designed to utilize the topography of the site so that each level has direct exterior access. The first floor hosts a 24-7 urgent clinic to evaluate people in crisis and admit them to the appropriate treatment program. The second floor is a day-program, with classrooms, counselling spaces, offices, and a cafeteria.

Across campus, the new three-story headquarters is a steel frame building with a full basement. The first floor is masonry clad, with traditional punch windows. The second floor has a glass curtain wall system, bringing a contemporary look that seems to rise out of the traditional base. The first floor has a multi-purpose training center able to accommodate 50 people, a grab-and-go café, and additional core/shell space for future expansion. The second floor spans executive and administrative offices.

Both new buildings have solar-ready roofs and infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations in the adjacent parking lots. Since 1969 Spectrum Health Systems has helped people with substance use and mental health disorders overcome addiction and reclaim their lives. Spectrum also runs several residential programs for adolescents and young adults in the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services.
